Elite-Fighters Seminar Series - 4
The Physics of the Marital Arts
With Kenpo Applications
The Elite-Fighters System of Martial
Arts is proud to announce the fourth in a series:
The Physics of the Martial Arts.
Within this 2 disk DVD set, you will
learn the basic concepts of physics with martial arts applications.
This DVD set is broken down into three
areas:
-
Focus
- in this section you will learn how to scientifically define what
focus really is and how you can improve upon your martial abilities
to increase your focus and power. No more wondering about the mysterious
concepts of CHI. This series sets it straight!
-
Leverage
- this section will teach you how lever systems work and how leverage
can be applied to improve your grappling skills, such as; Joint
Locks, Chokes and Takedowns.
-
Kenpo
Applications - in this section you
will learn the science of Technique Decomposition to learn the true
elements of the 'power sources' of Kenpo techniques so that you
can further enhance your kenpo abilities.
Utilizing modern technology, you will
learn how to turn your dojo into a laboratory!
This series is designed to teach you how to completely comprehend the
scientific principles of the martial arts, without being intimidated
with difficult mathematics.

Background
As a university graduate student of physics in the 1980s, I began analyzing
martial arts according to science, rather than just accepting the traditional
asian models and explanations of the concepts of Focus and Chi. In 1986,
I had begun several conversations with Ed Parker regarding these issues
and how certain kenpo concepts seemed to not hold up in the real world
of physics, such as Marriage of Gravity, and the the concept of Reverse
Motion, and Reverse Principles. Ed Parker was very receptive with this
information and analysis. Eventually, he had me to start writing a column
in his IKKA newsletter, entitled "Kenpo Physics." (You can
still download some of these articles from our Download
Section.) Over the next few years I had begun a process that detailed
the ideas that Ed Parker and I had discussed, breaking down techniques
into their base components, etc., and started writing a manuscript entitled
The Physics of the Martial Arts - with Kenpo Applications. Because physics
often scares away people due to the complex mathematics, I began reworking
the manuscript into an easy-to-learn method. The results was a method
to teach the student how to comprehend, rather than apprehend
physics concepts, and how to keep the "Big Picture"
in mind when applying science to the martial arts. This principle became
so successful in teaching these concepts to my students, we have put
it in DVD format, in the same sequence that you would get in one of
our seminars. I am sure that will agree that physics in no longer boring
and that martial arts isn't as mysterious after you have begun experimenting
in the manner that we instruct.
