Kenpo Legacy Program
The American Kenpo Legacy Association (AKLA) has developed a program where instructors and associations can maintain independence of curriculum and association, and yet remain recognized and accepted in the Kenpo community. It is our desire to bridge the gap between the differences of kenpo associations, and to facilitate and encourage those who wish to become pioneers in an evolving martial art. Imagine 50-60 years ago, a group of karateka studying from James Mitose and William Chow. Although they all studied the same material, look at all of the offspring that came from those pioneers: American Kenpo, Tracys Kenpo, Kajukenbo, Shaolin Kempo, Kosho-Ryu Kempo and many others. They each left their legacy behind and thousands continue to train from the system that they developed.
If you have, or desire to develop your own 'tailored' system of kenpo, don't be shy or deceitful about it and hide behind the IKKA crest for validation. The Kenpo pioneers like Ed Parker, The Tracy Brothers, Emperado Castro, William Chow, Nick Cerio, and the Lamkin Brothers, all stepped forward and left a legacy that is highly regarded and widely studied. If you truly don't want to remain true to the system that you originally learned, then let us help you to move forward. Don't mislead you students to believing that they are learning something that is 'authentic from Ed Parker' or someone of authority because you are afraid that noone will accept you.
The AKLA has developed a method that you will be able to work from, while remaining independent toward you own goals. Because the AKLA is being taught in numerous countries, we have branched to a higher association - Internation Kenpo Legacy Association.
The IKLA is now the parent association from which your legacy can find a home. Here is a listing of the how the IKLA works:

We see American Kenpo in Canada, Spain, Brazil, Italy, Great Britain, Ireland. Most of these schools have already been 'tailoring' the American Kenpo curriculum. So, who will be the pioneer who will be recognized as the Father of Candian Kenpo, or the Founder of Irish Kenpo, and so on. Now is the time for you to step up, move ahead and be recognized. Its our desire that from the guidelines and encouragment among the IKLA members, that new great systems and leaders will be born, as was done by the Grand Masters who have come before you.
The IKLA allows each association to remain independent of content and curriculum, yet allows for recognition of rank among the various members who pledge to uphold the standards.
Regardless of the curriculum, individual rank holders must adhere to the minimum standards set forth by the IKLA, which are found here [Belt Ranking Standards]
Benefits of the IKLA
- Independence and autonomy as a school association leader, school owner, instructor or student. We simply do not tell you what to do or how to run your program. We do offer advise if needed.
- Recognition of rank among all IKLA participants. The minimum Standards of Kenpo are so universally accepted, that you rank will hold recognition to outside associations as well.
- For those who develop their own curriculum, the IKLA will form a panel of black belts that will allow you to test and advance, rather than proclaiming your own rank, or being orphaned at the current rank that you possess. Maintaining belt standards will legitimize your rank promotions, and will hinder the fast advancement of belts that currently plague many of the kenpo associations.
- An association web page linked from www.american-kenpo-legacy.com that you will develop with our webmaster. Your page can be changed once per month, with whatever look that you desire.
- Your own forum, that you will have full control of, at http://forums.elite-fighters.com/index.php
NOTE: the forum will be undergoing reconstruction in the next couple of months. Many sub-forums will be pruned or combined to allow for easier navigation.
- Membership of the IKLA Promotional Board.
- Comraderie among fellow kenpo black belt.,
- Certificate indicating your IKLA membership, association name and title.
and
- No Politics!
